It is absolute impressive Donegal native Easkey Britton has found herself the subject of a one-hour documentary on French television after she brought surfing to a beach in Iran, clad head-to-toe in surfing gear – complete with a headscarf.
The 26-year-old surfer travelled to Chabahar, Iran, in September last year with filmmaker Marion Poizeau. In an article with French-language blog surf-prevention.com, Poizeau explains 'Easkey learns to surf with a hijab in Lycra designed for Muslim women who want to practice water sports. It slips a lot, but she eventually gets used to it!'
Many locals had never seen the sport before, and Poizeau belives Britton is the first woman to surf in Iranian waters.
